More than just a fundraiser.

“What started out just as a fundraiser is really blossoming into something bigger for the studio, community, and our family.” - Krissy Danburg

Each year, over 2.8+ million people sustain traumatic brain injury (TBI) - over 138,000 of those happen in Pennsylvania. Each TBI (including concussion) is unique and can cause life-changing impacts. That’s why, for those affected, support and community are key.

When Jarrid and Krissy opened their YogaSix studio in Pittsburgh, it was their goal to build a community around yoga and meditation — one that would support an important cause.

“We wanted something that would ingrain us in our local community,” shared Krissy, “all while creating a positive impact. Our studio also gave us the ability to show our kids that, through hard work, we could create a place where people could thrive.”

YogaSix is a national brand with an established charitable donation program - Flow for a Cause - which aims to give back to non-profits by helping “great causes one pose at a time.”

With this framework, Krissy and Jarrid reached out to explore a partnership with LoveYourBrain. “As a family that has personally been impacted by TBI,” wrote Krissy, “we love the mission of LoveYourBrain, and their pathways to healing for both patients and caregivers.”

This led to YogaSix South Hills hosting MindfulMarch fundraising events for two years in a row, coinciding with their studio anniversary! In March 2022 they hosted 105 people in donation-based classes in one day. In 2023 they took this even further.

They planned a two-day event to introduce more people to the physical and mental health benefits of yoga and bring visibility to their connection with TBI. This included donation-based classes and a day of free classes and workshops aimed at celebrating health and community.

Across just three days of fundraising since 2022, the Danburgs have raised over $9,200 for LoveYourBrain, which helps ensure the TBI community has FREE access to research-backed programs and resources.

Yet, as true entrepreneurs, they saw the potential to creatively let their impact live on. This past March, Krissy and Jarrid recognized an opportunity to take the Flow for a Cause program to a new level, deepening their commitment to accessibility and growing their community hub to build more awareness and support for brain injury.

Tune in next week to discover how Krissy and Jarrid invested in brain health to create a future of greater access!
