Yamas

Led by Courtney Killian

The Yamas are five principles - non-harming (ahimsa), truthfulness (satya), non-stealing (asethya), moderation (bramacharya), and contentment (aparigraha) - espoused by yoga philosophy. Although these principles were created in ancient times, their meaning remains highly relevant to our current society and can serve as a powerful framework for approaching daily life. The Yamas are particularly helpful when healing from a TBI, because, when practiced, we are learning to live a healthier, more balanced, and more peaceful lives.

Courtney Kilian, a yoga teacher and writer, who has also experienced a TBI, shares how she has applied the Yamas to guide her healing process. Each week, we’ll feature Courtney talking about how the Yamas have supported her in her journey following her TBI.
