Team Spotlight: Abbey Whatley
Meet Abbey Whatley (she/her), LoveYourBrain’s Development Coordinator! Abbey joined the LoveYourBrain team in June of 2022, and coordinates the implementation of LYB development to support sustainability, innovation, and growth.
We sat down to meet Abbey, to learn more about what brings her meaning and joy!
Abbey, why LoveYourBrain?
When I first discovered LoveYourBrain, I immediately knew I wanted to get involved in some capacity or another. From losing a loved one to a traumatic brain injury to being involved in competitive sports where head injuries are often overlooked, LoveYourBrain’s mission is deeply intertwined with my own.
What excites you about working in development for LYB?
Working in development at LoveYourBrain brings me so. much. joy. I am excited and inspired by the unwavering generosity of our donor community, and I feel so grateful to hold space with the incredible humans who make healing and transformation possible for so many.
Can you share your favorite LYB memory since joining the team?
This is tough because there have been so many sweet mems since joining the LYB team. My favorite of them all, though, was attending the LoveYourBrain August Retreat. I met some of my all-time favorite humans and experienced the love, acceptance, and care that our community continuously shows up with. (I also laughed so hard that I cried - twice!)
What fills your cup?
In light of the holiday season, nothing fills my cup like spending quality time with the people (and my doggo, Bean) that I love. I also really love moving my body (pickleball is my activity of choice right now), being by the water, and reading cheesy romance novels.
What would someone be most surprised to learn about you?
Someone might be surprised to learn that I absolutely hate hate hate (insert the Grinch voice here) cooking yet I absolutely love yummy foods. So basically, I’ll be bringing a store-bought pie to Thanksgiving dinner!
Abbey supports all aspects of our work - check out ways to get involved to connect with her work!
