Meet Turi Hetherington!
Turi Hetherington (she/her) is a yoga & meditation teacher and holistic health coach, helping individuals develop strength, flexibility, and balance in body and mind. She is especially drawn to gentle yoga and meditation to reduce stress and tension in the body, and calm and soothe the nervous system. With her expertise and kind heart, Turi serves as a Lead Yoga Teacher at LYB Retreats and as a LYB Meditation Teacher in our Meditation & Yoga Library.
Rest is one of the core pillars of our Meditation & Yoga Resources, so we asked Turi to share a bit more about why it is important, and how it can support us to live well!
Why is cultivating rest important?
The body has an innate wisdom and capacity to heal given the opportunity. Rest is the body’s housekeeping, maintenance, and repair time. I feel better - physically, mentally, and emotionally - when I am well-rested.
What does living with rest look like to you?
Going to bed early. I love getting up for sunrise trail runs/hikes. To make sure I get enough sleep, I’m usually in bed by 9pm. I also love practicing yoga nidra. A 20-30 min practice in the afternoon is a restful and refreshing break in my day.
How does rest support you to live well?
When I am well rested I feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally. I also feel like I communicate better and am more patient when I am well-rested.
Rest supports my capacity to respond to challenges in life with a greater sense of ease. I can more easily see obstacles and navigate my way forward with clarity and grace. This applies to obstacles on the trail, as well as in relationships.
