LYB Mindset Facilitator
About me: I am continually awed by the healing nature of the human body in motion. Yoga, dance, and fitness have been consistent practices in my life since 1976, including over 40 years of teaching these forms to diverse students at colleges and community venues. I enjoy creating an environment that is adaptable and welcoming to all. I am a certified yoga teacher, hold a PhD in Education with an emphasis in adult education, and an MFA in Dance.
Why LYB: Over the years, I’ve been inspired by the bravery and tenacity of my college students who manage TBI and other brain injuries in their lives while attending the general education yoga and dance classes that I teach. I collaborate with each student, guiding them in how to make movement easier/harder so that it is comfortable, prevents injury, and offers growth/challenge. In these collaborations, I learn so much from my students and am so grateful to them. I stumbled onto LYB while browsing an online job board list. I was instantly attracted to LYB’s wonderful, inclusive approach and decided to train with them. So happy to be part of the LYB community…so much kindness and love!
Superhero: I have many superheroes, including a community of students, neighbors, friends, colleagues, and family. However, the three superheroes that impact my life the most are my husband and two daughters who have supported me through my varied injuries and adventures, challenged me, delighted me, encouraged me, cooked for me, hiked with me, and spent many hours as my partner dance teaching assistants.
Resources: I invite you to visit my website for information and links to the classes I teach. As the pandemic evolves I continue to offer free/sliding-scale classes to the public, mostly via Zoom. https://www.jmhughesphd.com/
